'The Lion in Winter' Opens to Critical Acclaim

If opening weekend crowds, critical acclaim, and standing ovations are harbingers of things to come, you shouldn’t wait to reserve seats for Falcon Theatre’s production of The Lion in Winter. It’s Falcon’s fourth production of the 2018-19 season, and tickets are selling fast.

Laurel Humes of the League of Cincinnati Theatres raves that “despite this royal family’s savage catfights, death threats, and sheer animosity toward one another...is surprisingly hilarious." (Click here for a sneak peak.)

The play is James Goldman’s deliciously wicked retelling of the love-hate travails between England’s King Henry II and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the accompanying power struggle to name the next heir to the English throne. Comedic in tone, darkly dramatic in action, and filled to overflowing with Goldman’s razor-sharp wit and dialogue.

Ms. Humes says the production “is witty, clever, and very well-acted by all cast members; this ensemble has no weak links.” She further says that Allen R. Middleton as Henry and Tracy M. Schoster “revel in the (lead) roles and are as good a match as the characters. Middleton’s Henry is flamboyant, all swagger and bluffs. Schoster’s Eleanor may be softer spoken, but her slings and arrows always hit the mark.”

Remaining Performances will be March 28, 29, 30, April 4, 5 and 6, 2019 at 8 PM.

Falcon's production features Allen R. Middleton as Henry, Tracy M. Schoster as Eleanor, Greg Mallios as Richard, Jared Earland as Geoffrey, Clay Winstead as John, Lexi Rigsby as Alais, and Dan Robertson as Philip.
